The Healthy Horse

Online Workshop Series

Sometimes we just don't have the time or energy to do a whole course to get the answers we're looking for!

The Healthy Horse Online Workshops are a quick and easy solution for getting the understanding you need so you can ask the right questions and be the proactive center of your horse's team of professionals.

The workshops are a lecture and discussion hybrid. Yes there's a presentation (obviously) but then we have a group discussion about the content so the attendees can ask questions, and learn from everyone else's questions too

They do more than just trap little stones to annoy you. They can actually tell you a lot about the health of the hoof.

do you want to understand:

  • What the White Line does (or should do)
  • What it means if you’re having problems
  • How to handle White Line Disease
  • What White Line stretching really means
  • What to do about those pesky stones that get stuck
  • Why those pesky stones may be a sign of a bigger problem!

Transitioning to Barefoot

Discover what you need to know to make a success of your horse’s transition.

Taking the shoes off your horse can be a terrifying prospect. There seems to be so much to consider. Are they going to be sore? How long will it take for them to be fully sound? What on earth is a barefoot diet?!?

Let’s talk about why and how going barefoot can help your horse, the best time to take the plunge, and what you can do before the shoes come off to help your horse transition with ease.

This is for you if:

  • You’re thinking of taking your horse’s shoes off and you’re not sure where to start
  • You’ve taken the shoes off recently and you need more help
  • You’ve been barefoot a while but you still don’t have a rock crunching horse
  • You’ve been told your horse could never go barefoot but you wish they could

Underrun Heels Demystified

Discover what’s going on inside the hoof when the heels collapse, and why trimming/shoeing alone isn’t going to fix the problem, and can, in some cases make it worse!

Underrun heels are so common the condition has multiple names. (Underslung heels, collapsed heels, long toe low heel syndrome, crushed heels, ‘splatty hoof’ - ok that’s not an official term, but it’s a well used and beautifully descriptive one!)

Underrun heels aren’t just a problem with the hoof capsule, but a result of a breakdown of the internal foot structure causing performance issues and lameness.

Let’s talk about what causes underrun heels, how it causes strain in through the whole body, and what you can do about it.

This is for you if:

  • Your horse has underrun heels and you want to fix them
  • You seem to get more than your fair share of hoof abscesses
  • You’ve been told your horse ‘just has bad feet’ but you wish it wasn’t true

Whole Horse Approach to Navicular

Discover how navicular isn’t just about the breakdown in the hoof capsule. It’s a whole horse problem, there’s postural problems, gait abnormalities and muscle imbalances that need to be considered.

If you focus on just the hooves, you can find yourself in a cycle of recurring lameness

Let’s look at what’s going on inside the hoof, why it’s happening and ways you can bring the whole horse back into healthy balance.

This is for you if:

  • Your horse has navicular and you want to know more
  • Your horse has a lameness that keeps repeating
  • Your horse has weak hooves and you want to get them strong and healthy

Gut for Glory

Discover how gut issues affect the whole horse and cause hoof problems.

It’s obvious that poor gut function will result in nutritional deficiencies and lack of performance for the horse but it goes far deeper than that!

Let’s explore how gut issues impact the posture, movement, behaviour and whole body causing long term breakdown of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

This is for you if:

  • You’re wondering why your horse isn’t performing as well as it should
  • You have hoof problems that never seem to get better
  • You’re worried that your horse seems unhappy for no reason
  • You already know or suspect your horse has gut problems and you want to understand more

Barefoot Approach to Laminitis

Discover how you can use diet, environment and other management protocols to give your horse a better, healthier lifestyle as part of their recovery.

Laminitis is about far more than just what’s going on in the hoof capsule. It’s easy to focus on the hoof, as that’s where all the pain is, but laminitis is a whole horse problem, and as such needs a whole horse solution.

A barefoot approach to laminitis looks at the whole horse and environment.

Let’s talk about feeding, grazing, hay, hoof boots, pads, movement, and ways you can monitor your horse so you can see the improvements more clearly, spot problems earlier and know when you need to make adjustments to their routine.

This is for you if:

  • You have a horse with laminitis and want to do more to help
  • Your horse is at risk of laminitis and you want to understand it better
  • You’re worried that your horse seems unhappy for no reason
