Acute vs Low Grade Laminitis
Acute laminitis is recognised by a bounding digital pulse, a rocked back stance, reluctance to walk and difficulty standing. We all know to look out for these signs but...
They're not signs that laminitis is coming... They're ALARM BELLS to tell you it's happening RIGHT NOW!
Low Grade Laminitis signs are more like a notification for an upcoming event. Really annoying, persistent notifications that interrupt everything you're doing and get in your way.
Low Grade Laminitis
Low Grade Laminitis tends to grumble along undetected, sometimes for years!
When I say undetected... that’s not strictly true…
It's often noticed - it's just not attributed to low grade laminitis.
It's Things Like:
We definitely notice these things!
We just think of them as part of our horse's character or breeding rather than a whole horse health problem.
Learning about these early warning signs isn't just to prevent a more serious laminitic event (though that in itself would be worth it)
Addressing these early warning signs, gets you a sounder, healthier horse with stronger more functional hooves! It also means you can stop worrying, feel more confident and enjoy your horse.
Here's What You'll Learn In 4 Weeks
1
Anatomy And Function - Putting The 'Fun' Into Function!!
It's essential to understand the structure and function of healthy hooves. Without that foundational knowledge you'll never be able to recognise if things are going wrong.
This module will start you off on the right foot by teaching you hoof structure, internal foot anatomy and dynamic function of the hooves.
2
Understanding Laminitis
You'll learn different types of laminitis, how the whole horse is affected and the changes you'll see in the hoof during the different stages of laminitis.
By the end of this module you'll understand all the terminology as well as the condition.
3
Early Warning Signs
We'll look at 35 ways a horse's body will signal low grade laminitis. We'll cover 5 signs that circulation is compromised, 16 signs the hoof capsule is struggling, 9 ways the horse will compensate in their gait and 5 ways the horse's body and posture will change.
You'll also learn 7 signs of acute laminitis so you know when it's gone beyond low grade laminitis.
4
Action!
Here's where we pull all your new knowledge and skills together.
We'll discuss causes and remedies for preventing and managing laminitis. You'll know simple ways to improve your horse's environment that work even if you're on a livery yard.
We'll discuss nutrition for laminitis prevention and practical ways to regulate the grass - without the stress!
You'll know how to manage foot soreness and we'll bust some common myths and misconceptions around laminitis that keep you stressed out, guilty and working far harder than you need to.
About Debs Crosoer
I’m a practicing Equine Podiatrist with over 15 years experience, an author and educator. My focus is on helping people who want wildly effective horse keeping methods, without the usual stress and complication.
I’ve helped many horse owners recover their horses from laminitis, using species appropriate, whole horse health methods. While I feel honoured to be a part of any rehabilitation journey, my true passion lies with laminitis prevention.
I believe knowledge is power. The more we, as owners, can understand about what's causing laminitis, the better equipped we are for protecting our horses from it. Being able to spot early warning signs is fundamental to preventing more serious events.
The Signs are there if you know what to look for...
Early intervention is vital!
When you understand what’s happening in the hoof and the whole horse during laminitis,
you can recognise the early warning signs
apply preventative methods
and dramatically reduce the risk of an acute attack.
Laminitis isn’t just for fat ponies it can affect any horse, even competition horses, and horses who have never had it before (no horse ever does until the first time)
Managing laminitis isn’t just about restricting diet or reducing sugar intake. A laminitic needs a balanced, species appropriate environment that promotes health and wellbeing. Not starvation and restriction.

EVERY HORSE OWNER SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE
Gillian Halpin
I took part in the first ever run of this course in 2019. The past few years, it seemed more and more people were telling their sad - often heartbreaking - stories of a beloved horse or pony coming down with laminitis.
The course promised an insight into all those little signs and indicators that build up almost under the radar before a horse goes down with laminitis ‘out of the blue’ . Did the course deliver on the promise? Totally!
Packed with learning, not just about the feet but also the health and well-being of the whole horse. A really accessible and friendly learning experience at everyone’s own pace, with a group discussion each week to ask anything... and never feel daft asking.
Since completing the course, I’ve joined in with group sessions on later courses and followed the discussions - and each time there’s been something new to think about. I’ve shouted about this course each time it’s ran because I really do believe the knowledge gained here can be a life-saver

EYE OPENER
Lesley OATS
I wondered whether to do this course when it was run, earlier in the Spring. My pony has EMS and I'd already done lots of online research and picked my trimmers brains to death. However, how wrong could I have been.
The Laminitis Warning Signs course filled in all the gaps the online research couldn't. The course provided me with a practical toolkit to pick up those early signs, helping to avert a full blown attack.
I really liked the interactive format and the group chat, question and answer sessions. Debs was so patient with all our questions and this was another good way to learn. Thank you. Has helped me tremendously.

That's not all!!

Ultimate Guide to Soaking Hay
Steam or soak. Hay or haylage. Soak for 30 mins, 2hrs, 4hrs or 12hrs.
There’s so much conflicting advice how are you ever supposed to work out what to do for the best…
The Ultimate Guide to Soaking Hay lays everything out in a simple way, and helps you figure out what your horse needs and the easiest way to achieve that.
Therapeutic Pads for Laminitis Recovery
Therapeutic pads are amazing, both for increasing your horses comfort and encouraging healthy growth.
When that square lump of foam arrives you can feel a bit baffled, but there’s so many ways you can use these pads, to provide support, relief and correct growth…
Gut Friendly Management Plan
The traditional way of managing a laminitic may achieve some of the desired goals, but it’s so far removed from a horse’s innate physical needs.
It can cause a lot of stress and suffering for both the horse and the owner!
There are ways to manage the environment that are much more species appropriate, stimulate healing and provide a good standard of life.
Everyone is happier (and often this approach is cheaper too!)
Laminitis Friendly Feeding List
It can be so difficult trying to figure out what to feed your horse.
Every product sounds great if you read the packaging, but how do you know what you’re actually buying and whether it’s suitable for your horse?
The Laminitis Friendly Feeding List removes most of the work (and the stress!)
Everything on the list is suitable for a laminitic, and descriptions will let you know whether the feed is beneficial for your horse specifically.
Supplements That Actually Work!
If feeds aren’t confusing enough, supplements can be even worse.
And they can be so expensive!
Cut out the confusion with this list that explains what the supplements do, if your horse needs them or not and whether they’re worth the cost.
A Simple Technique to Monitor Workload
When your horse is recovering from laminitis how can you be sure you’re doing enough to encourage recovery, but not so much you’re overdoing it!
Use this simple technique that tells you if you’re stimulating or impeding healing in the hooves.
Personalised Support
We have a great community in our Facebook group where you can get help and ideas from like minded horse lovers, and of course Debs will answer any questions you have.
There’s a Sunday evening Zoom meeting each week (while the course is running) so you can ask advice, get support, discuss your horse’s needs and learn from your fellow students' questions.
If you can’t make the meeting you can send your questions ahead and watch the replay.

AN EXCELLENT COURSE
Amanda
I just want to thank Debs and also glamorous assistant Victoria for an excellent course .
The course totally exceeded expectations containing the right amount of knowledge to really help you feel confident assessing your horse and also providing you with the skills to change management when needed .
The live sessions that accompanied the course were absolutely key to tying everything together and also providing a non judgemental forum where any question is deemed appropriate!! The video content I know I will refer back to again and again .

So... How Does This Work Then?
This is a 4 week long course.
1 module will be released each week. It will take 30-45mins to complete. How much extra time you spend discussing things and asking questions is up to you!
You have lifetime access, so you can work at your own pace. You literally can't fall behind :)
Each module has video lessons, with supporting docs like worksheets, pdfs and further resources.
Access is through the Hoof Geek Academy membership site.
You get instant access to the first module and each week a new module is released.
This course is aimed at horse owners. All the basics will be covered.
I try to make everything easy to understand.
We have a Zoom meeting twice month where you can ask Debs anything, a private facebook group of dedicated hoof geeks, and a comments section for each lesson where you can get your questions answered.
Well, technically it's all done at home :)
But there are no assignments to complete, or grades given.
You can get a course completion certificate for CPD purposes, or just for your own satisfaction to hang on your wall! You'll be able to download it from the membership site once you've completed the course.
